چکیده

Recently, several wireless scheduling algorithms have been proposed. It is important to evaluate their performance to establish the QoS provision capabilities of wireless networks. In this paper, we define a Wired-Fair scheduling scheme which is fair and but not channel-efficient, a ChannelEfficient scheduling scheme which is not fair and a WirelessFair scheduling scheme that is both channel-efficient and fair. We evaluate their performance under different channel conditions for a symmetric two-flow scheduling scenario in terms of channel-efficiency and fairness.

Analytical Evaluation of the Performance of Proportional Fair Scheduling in OFDMA-Based Wireless Systems

This paper provides an analytical evaluation of the performance of proportional fair (PF) scheduling in Orthogonal FrequencyDivision Multiple Access (OFDMA) wireless systems. OFDMA represents a promising multiple access scheme for transmission over wireless channels, as it combines the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation and subcarrier allocation. On the other hand, the...

A Distributed Scheduling Scheme Providing QoS in Multimedia Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

Providing Quality of Service(QoS) in distributed networks, such as multimedia ad hoc wireless network, also requires well defined scheduling schemes. However, due to the distributed nature of ad hoc networks, nodes may not be able to determine the next packet to transmit as in the centralized networks. Thus, it is a non-trivial issue to provide bounded delay guarantee, with fair share of resour...

Flow-level performance and capacity of wireless networks with user mobility

The performance evaluation of wireless networks is severely complicated by the specific features of radio communication, such as highly variable channel conditions, interference issues, and possible hand-offs among base stations. The latter elements have no natural counterparts in wireline scenarios, and create a need for novel performance models that account for the impact of these characteris...

Evaluation of Quality of Service Schemes for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs

This paper evaluates four mechanisms for providing service differentiation in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, the Point Coordinator Function (PCF) of IEEE 802.11, the Enhanced Distributed Coordinator Function (EDCF) of the proposed IEEE 802.11e extension to IEEE 802.11, Distributed Fair Scheduling (DFS), and Blackburst using the ns-2 simulator. The metrics used in the evaluation are throughput, medi...

Optimal radio channel allocation for fair queuing in wireless data networks

In this paper, the problem of fair scheduling in a wireless network is formulated as an assignment problem and an Optimal Radio Channel Allocation (ORCA) strategy is proposed for fair bandwidth allocation in a centralized manner. Simulation results show that the performance improvement due to ORCA can be significant compared to other wireless fairqueuing mechanisms proposed in the literature su...
